Maureen's Cove - Whitsunday Islands Dive Site
The northern end of Hook Island provides some of the Whitsundays best scuba diving. Maureen's Cove has a reef about 200 metres from the eastern shore and about 300 metres from the southern shore. On a good day this is a great dive with good diving depth and very intersting underwater terrain. This used to be a very popular spot for local spearfishermen but since the Marine Park Rules have been enforced the site has become a home for a wide variety of large reef fish.

Details of Maureen's Cove
Northern end of Hook Island.
Large coral bommies with lots of territorial sea creatures. Bommies rise up from about 13
metres but the tops are well often clear of the surface making the site unsuitable for snorkellers. Scuba diving here is very interesting with gullies and ledges in deeper water.
Some plate coral and massive brain corals. Coral Trout country. Another top dive and usually good unless in a northerly. Barracuda, barramundi cod, spotted rays , estuary cod and maori wrasse have all been sighted here.
Closer to shore the reef is quite shallow and very pretty. Snorkelling is good from here towards
the point.
