Reefsuites RefurbishmentThe refurbishment of the Reefworld pontoon, supported by the Queensland Government Growing Tourism Infrastructure Fund was a collaborative project to support the regions unique natural environment in delivering this Australian-first tourism experience. The refurbishment team worked hand-in-hand with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority to ensure all elements of this project were approached in a sustainable and environmentally conscious manner. Once work was completed in December 2019, the refurbished pontoon featuring two Reefsuites was returned to its former location on Hardy Reef, thus minimising impact on the surrounding marine environment. |

Caring for the EnvironmentThis vital project has achieved the largest natural coral transplant ever to be undertaken on the Great Barrier Reef. More than 4000 individual pieces of coral were sustainably removed from old moorings and successfully transplanted onto the existing reef wall to rejuvenate the local environment. A coral farm has also been established to encourage further coral as well as marine animal expansion in the area.
The new pontoon is a hub for public education, providing accurate reef knowledge and conservation guidance to our many visitors. |
